General Department Information

There are are a number of program highlights that are useful to know in completing EAF Degree Programs:

  • Master’s degree students have six years to complete the degree
  • Doctoral degree students have eight years to complete the degree
  • An academic adviser is assigned by the EAF Department
  • Each student designs a Plan of Study in consultation with an academic adviser in EAF
  • Financial assistance is available through the EAF Department in the form of scholarships, graduate assistantships, and tuition waivers (doctoral level by application)
  • Master’s degree students can select one of three options for their Program: a 39-hours of coursework, or 32 hours (with either a master’s thesis or a comprehensive exam)
  • Doctoral degree students complete at least 60 semester hours of courses, 15 semester hours of Doctoral Dissertation, and the Doctoral Exam
  • The doctoral program provides a Doctoral Student Handbook.

Graduates of EAF Programs

Graduates of the Department of Educational Administration & Foundations assume a broad range of leadership positions in colleges, universities, and in organizations and associations at both state and national level, as well as in schools and school districts.

Graduates of the Master’s Degree CSPA Concentration assume entry-level and middle-management positions in student affairs administration in colleges and universities.

Doctoral Graduates of the Higher Educational Administration Concentration assume major leadership positions in colleges, universities, agencies, and associations. EAF Doctoral Graduates includes presidents in several community colleges in Illinois and in other states. Numerous EAF doctoral graduates serve at the level of department chair, division chair, or vice presidents of colleges and universities. Also, EAF doctoral graduates are working as analysts in state and federal government, agencies, and associations.

The EAF Department is strongly committed to enrolling a graduate student population of women and men who are racially and ethnically diverse and include international students from other cultures and nations. Doctoral graduates have represented a multitude of nations including Brazil, Canada, Iran, Jordan, Kenya, Mexico, Nigeria, the Philippines, Thailand, and the United Kingdom.
