Override Procedure for EAF Undergraduate Foundations Classes
(EAF 228, 231, 235)  Prerequisites:  60 semester hours & Teacher Education Major

Our goal is to provide openings for the students who absolutely need a foundations course to graduate or before they student teach the next semester!  We assure students that graduation will not be held up due to a closed section.

To be sure that education majors are best served, the  EAF Department asks students requesting overrides to know the Department's procedures. Following the steps below will assure that the students who need the course will be able to enroll. Thanks for your cooperation.

1. Overrides will not be given for ANY undergraduate foundations course (EAF 228, EAF 231, and EAF 235) until the student's advisor contacts the Department about unusual circumstances.

  • Top priority for closed sections if for graduating seniors or for students who will be spending their LAST semester on campus prior to student teaching.
  • Second priority for closed sections is for other unusual circumstances as described by an advisor.
  • Please note that living off campus, going home for the summer, and work schedules generally are not considered unusual circumstances especially for individuals are not in their last semester before they graduate.
    1. The student's ADVISOR contacts Kelly Peiffer  (438-2050). The advisor will confirm that the student is a graduating senior or one who is spending his/her last semester on campus or who has a special circumstance that would prevent the student from taking the course another semester.  The advisor provides the EAF Department with the student's name, UID number, and all conflict-free times so we can provide an override.
    2. The Department will determine which section it can provide an override for based on class enrollment and openings in the student's schedule rather than on personal preference or convenience. Internet sections are just one delivery option with the same class size maximums as traditional classes.

2.  The Department will contact the student letting him/her know which course (228, 231, 235) and section was opened so he/she can register.

3.  NOTE!! Once the semester has started, the procedure changes.  Students must contact the course instructor FIRST before override is requested, then follow steps 1-2 listed above.

Override Procedure for EAF Graduate Classes

Graduate Research Methods and Statistics Classes (EAF 401, 410, 508, 509, 510, 511, 512)

Each research methods course requires a prerequisite ISU course. For example, EAF 508 and 509 both require EAF 410 (a master's level research methods and statistics class). Students are blocked if they do not have the ISU prerequisite. If students have recently completed a similar course at another univeristy, and the course is OPEN, they contact Kelly Peiffer  (438-2050) for an override. If students are unsure their knowledge is up-to-date or similar to the prerequisite, they should contact the instructor. Instructors hold students responsible for prior coursework; they will not review old material.

The contact person for the Department is Kelly Peiffer 438-2050 (kdpeiff@ilstu.edu). The Department will let you know whether the override is approved or not (depending on current class size).  Students-at-large will not be provided overrides to closed classes. Once the override is given, you may register.
