The mission of the Center for the Study of Education Policy is to perform applied research and public service related to current and emerging policy issues affecting the whole education continuum (P-16 and beyond). This includes publications related to current state and national initiatives housed at the Center as well as those associated with Grapevine, the Planning and Changing Journal, and the Illinois State Education Law and Policy Journal.
Planning and Changing - An Education Leadership and Policy Journal: Planning and Changing provides a forum for the presentation of issues and studies that inform current educational policy and practice. As such, the journal serves as a critical, intellectual resource for educational leaders, practitioners, and policy makers. Peer-reviewed articles include formal research studies using quantitative and/or qualitative methodologies, as well as reflective, theoretical pieces focused on significant aspects of education and schooling relevant to the administrator, community, or the larger public good.
Illinois State Education Law and Policy Journal: The primary purpose of the Illinois State Education Law and Policy Journal (formerly Illinois School Law Quarterly - ISLQ) is to provide a forum for the interchange of ideas, theories, and issues on various aspects of school law and policy among practitioners, professors, and attorneys. The emphasis is on analyzing issues in school law and policy to develop new theories that explain current and past developments in the law and policy matters and to provide the theoretical framework to anticipate and predict future developments in school law and policy.
Grapevine:The Grapevine project entails an annual compilation of data on state tax support for higher education, including general fund appropriations for universities, colleges, community colleges, and state higher education agencies. Each year we ask states for tax appropriations data for the new fiscal year, and we also ask for revisions (if any) to data reported one year ago, two years ago, five years ago, and ten years ago. Updated state reports are entered on the Grapevine web site as they are received from May through December of the calendar year.
Research and Policy Reports - 1-2007 The Illinois Best Practice School Study, 2003-2006: The Illinois Best Practice School Study is part of a national research study to investigate successful practices in schools. This multi-year study (2003- 2006) sought to identify and analyze the best practices of schools that are considered to be consistent high performers despite significant poverty levels.
