Tuesday, July 13, 2004: meeting with Kristina Hesbol, UIUC, to discuss ways to collaborate among research conducted by Dr. Hesbol and the work of SAELP.
Thursday, July 15, 2004: phone call with MarilynMcConachie, Assistant Vice President University Outreach at NIU, to discuss ways to collaborate among NIU and SAELP initiatives.
Monday, July 19, 2004: meeting with Perry Soldwedel from the Consortium for Educational Change to discuss partnership opportunities between CEC and SAELP. Discussion also centered on how to integrate Dr. Soldwedel’s work with the American Society for Quality (ASQ) into SAELP initiatives.
Tuesday, July 20, 2004: meeting with Brenda Holmes, former Deputy Chief of Staff for Education, to discuss ways that IL-SAELP fits with the Governor’s education initiatives.
Thursday, July 29, 2004: meeting with Illinois LEAD staff, Diane Rutledge and Roberta Hendee, to discuss the alignment of IL-SAELP with LEAD goals.
Tuesday, August 10, 2004: meeting with Stanley Ikenberry, Chair of the IL-SAELP Executive Committee, to update him on the goals of IL-SAELP and discuss the upcoming fall Executive Committee meeting. A follow-up meeting was held on Wednesday, October 13th.
Tuesday, August 17, 2004: phone conversation with Jenny Tripses, Chair of the Illinois Council for Professors of Education Administration (ICPEA), to discuss the possibility of doing a university symposium related to IL-SAELP initiatives sponsored by ICPEA. A follow-up meeting was held on Friday, September 10th on Illinois State’s campus. During this meeting, it was decided that the first university symposium would focus on professional practice internships for school leaders. During the symposium, ICPEA will release the results of a statewide survey on school leadership internships.
Wednesday, August 18, 2004: meeting with William Kling, member of the IL-SAELP consortium, to update him on IL-SAELP II initiatives.
Tuesday, August 24, 2004: meeting with Marilyn McConachie, Harvey Smith, Lee Patton, and Lynda Irvin to discuss ways to connect the ITLC data-based decision making model with NIU’s IIRC data web site.
Wednesday, August 25, 2004: meeting with Lynn Gaddis and Stephanie Epp from the National Board Resource Center to discuss ways to incorporate SAELP’s teacher leader initiatives with the work of the National Board certified teachers. A follow-up meeting was conducted on Wednesday, September 1st.
Wednesday, August 25, 2004: phone conversation with Elliot Regenstein, Director of Education Reform for the Governor, to discuss ways that IL-SAELP can be involved with efforts to revisit the Illinois School Code. During this conversation, Elliot gave his commitment to serving on the IL-SAELP Consortium and during a later conversation to serving on the IL-SAELP Executive Committee.
Wednesday, August 25, 2004: meeting with Walt Warfield, Illinois Association of School Administrators (IASA), and John Dively, Illinois Principals' Association (IPA), to provide an update on IL-SAELP and to discuss ways in which the work of IL-SAELP can be coordinated with the work of these organizations.
Tuesday, August 31, 2004: meeting with Don White, Superintendent of Pekin School District, to discuss the incorporation of data-driven decision making models in at least 1 of 5 IASA professional development activities.
Wednesday, September 1, 2004: meeting among Illinois State University researchers involved with the NCEA/Just 4 Kids project to discuss a plan for further participation with the national project.
Tuesday, September 14, 2004: meeting among IL-SAELP staff, LEAD staff, and the representatives from the Chicago Public Schools to discuss ways for better collaboration among IL-SAELP, LEAD, and CPS school leadership initiatives.
Wednesday, September 15, 2004: attendance at the National Institute for School Leadership (NISL) School Leadership Forum in Chicago. The meeting was coordinated by William Kling, a member of the IL-SAELP consortium.
Monday, September 27, 2004: meeting between IL-SAELP and LEAD Springfield staff in Springfield. IL-SAELP and LEAD Springfield staff meet every five to six weeks to discuss progress and areas for needed collaboration on state and local leadership activities.
Monday, October 4, 2004: meeting with Cal Jackson, professional development consultant for the Illinois Association of School Business Officials (IASBO) and a member of the IL-SAELP consortium, to discussion statewide professional development activities.
Friday, October 8, 2004: discussion session with the National Board Certified Teachers University Alliance to receive feedback on SAELP initiatives involving National Board Certified Teachers.
Monday, November 8, 2004: IL-SAELP staff met with Kristina Hesbol to prepare for the November 22nd consortium meeting. A conference call was held on Wednesday, November 10th with LEAD Springfield staff to discuss the IL-SAELP District Network meeting following the consortium meeting.
Wednesday, November 17, 2004: with IL-SAELP committee chairs to brief them on the roles and responsibilities for IL-SAELP committees.
Friday, November 15, 2004: the IL-SAELP Executive Committee met in Springfield. Minutes of the meeting can be found on the IL-SAELP web page.
Tuesday, November 16, 2004: Norm Durflinger spoke to the ISBE-led Continuous Improvement Partnership (CIP) about the work of IL-SAELP. At the meeting, Erika Hunt was asked to serve on the Leadership Academy subcommittee on behalf of IL-SAELP.
Friday, November 18, 2004: Erika Hunt met with Robert Fisher to discuss the development of a group within the Association of Teacher Educators devoted to promoting the importance of school leadership in teacher education.
Thursday, December 2, 2004: meeting between the Wallace Foundation, Chicago Public Schools, Chicago Public Education Fund, IL-SAELP, and LEAD Springfield to discuss the work of a conditions audit that CPS will be developing and implementing this year.
Monday, December 6, 2004: Norm Durflinger attended a meeting for the Illinois Interactive Report Card (IIRC) Steering Committee.
On Tuesday, December 7, 2004: Norm Durflinger and Erika Hunt spoke with Lisa Guckian from the James B. Hunt Institute to provide an update on IL-SAELP activities.
On the morning of Wednesday, December 8, 2004: Norm Durflinger and Erika Hunt met with Lynn Gaddis and Stephanie Epp to prepare for an upcoming meeting with the Chicago Public Schools and the Chicago Public Education Fund on designing seamless routes to Type 75 certification for National Board Certified Teachers.
Wednesday, December 8, 2004: meeting between Elliot Regenstein (Governor's Office), Jon Furr (ISBE), Maggie Noe (UIS), Brad Colwell (SIUC), Ronette Leal-McCarthy (attorney), Janette Malafa (Senate Republican Staff), Norm Durflinger (IL-SAELP), and Erika Hunt (IL-SAELP) to discuss past and present work to address Illinois School Code revisions.
Thursday, December 9, 2004: IL-SAELP and LEAD-Springfield staff met to discuss the planning of the next IL-SAELP District Network meeting and the scheduling of a Leadership Academy to be held at Illinois State University’s campus in June, 2005.
Thursday, December 9, 2004: Norm Durflinger and Erika Hunt attended the meeting of the Illinois Council for Professors of Education Administration (ICPEA) and provided the group with an update on the activities of IL-SAELP. The group was also asked to nominate a private university representative to serve on the IL-SAELP Administrative Preparation and Certification Task Force.
Wednesday, December 15, 2004: Erika Hunt met with Jenny Tripses to plan the upcoming ICPEA/IL-SAELP Symposium: Professional Practice. The symposium will be held on Illinois State University’s campus on February 10th, 2005.
Wednesday, January 12, 2005: Meeting between Norm Durflinger, Erika Hunt, Jo Anderson, and Perry Soldwedel regarding the incorporation of Rockford School District through the Consortium for Education Change (CEC) with the IL-SAELP District Network.
Thursday, January 13, 2005: Meeting between IL-SAELP staff, including Lynn Gaddis, Stephanie Epp from the National Board Resource Center, the Chicago Public Education Fund, and Chicago Public Schools to discuss the leadership routes for National Board Certified Teachers within CPS.
Thursday, January 13, 2005: IL-SAELP members, including Lynn Gaddis and Stephanie Epp will be meeting with CPS and CPEF to discuss possible opportunities for developing a seamless system for Type 75 for National Board Certified Teachers.

Tuesday, January 25, 2005: Norm Durflinger, Erika Hunt, Diane Rutledge, and Bert Hendee met in Springfield to update each other on the work of SAELP and LEAD.
Thursday, February 3, 2005: Conference call between IL-SAELP, CPS, CPEF, and LEAD-Springfield to discuss status of CPS conditions audit.
Friday, February 4, 2005: Meeting in Springfield with John Dively, President of the Illinois Principals Association, to discuss with him a leadership web page for principals that will be housed on the IPA web site.
Monday, February 7, 2005: IL-SAELP hosted a meeting to assess the state’s
leadership development system as well as the Administrators’ Academy
based on the instrument distributed by The Wallace Foundation. The assessment,
which was facilitated by Lois
Adams-Rodgers and Brenda
Klostermann, found that Illinois does not have an aligned system for
developing and sustaining highly qualified school leaders that are able
to improve student achievement. As well the group concluded that there does
not exists a statewide multi-day professional development opportunity available
to all principals in the state that targets instructional leadership development.

Thursday, February 10, 2005: ICPEA and IL-SAELP hosted a University Symposium that examined the different internship programs in Illinois. At this meeting, the group also developed elements of a quality internship experience. Click here to learn more about the development from this meeting.
Monday, February 14, 2005: Norm Durflinger and Erika Hunt met with Jo Anderson and Perry Soldwedel from the Consortium for Educational Change (CEC) to discuss a school coaching program that CEC will be hosting based on a model developed at the New Teachers Center at the University of California-Santa Cruz.
Tuesday, February 15, 2005: Norm Durflinger and Erika Hunt presented at the Association for Teacher Education with Gina Lamsargis and Mary McDonald , two school improvement coaches in Springfield School District, about the work of IL-SAELP and LEAD-Springfield with using teacher leadership to support the work of school principals.
Tuesday, February 15, 2005: A conference call was held by The Wallace Foundation to solicit feedback from the SAELP state directors on the assessment exercises being conducted in each state.
Thursday, February 24, 2005: A conference call was held between IL-SAELP, CPS, CPEF, and LEAD-Springfield to discuss developments with Chicago’s Conditions Audit.
Wednesday, March 2, 2005: A meeting for the IL-SAELP District Network was held at Starved Rock Lodge. At the meeting, the different district initiatives were shared. As well, the group had the opportunity to learn about the anticipated work of IL-SAELP for the next grant period and to engage in discussion centered on the planning of the Leadership Academy to be held at Illinois State University on June 21 and 22nd.
Thursday, March 3, 2005: A meeting was held between Kristina Hesbol at UIUC and Erika Hunt to discuss a syllabi study that is being conducted on all courses offered through university preparation programs in the state. The study, to be completed early this summer, will be used to guide the work of the Administrators Preparation Committee who will be working on the design of what a model preparation program for principals might look like.
Friday, March 4, 2005: A conference call was held with Stan Ikenberry to brief him on the agenda and items for discussion for the upcoming Executive Committee meeting.
Monday, March 7, 2005: The IL-SAELP Executive Committee meeting was held in Springfield. Following the meeting, Lisa Guckian from the Hunt Institute met with the School Superintendents, Randy Dunn, to discuss ways that the Hunt Institute can support educational reform efforts in Illinois.
Monday, March 7, 2005: A site visit was held in Phoenix, AZ between IL-SAELP, Oregon SAELP, LEAD-Springfield, and LEAD-Eugene. The visit was facilitated by The Wallace Foundation.
Wednesday, March 9, 2005: The 73 rd Annual Administrators’ Round-Up was held at Illinois State University. The event is held each year in collaboration with Illinois State University, the Illinois Principals’ Association, and the Illinois Association for School Administrators.
Thursday, March 10, 2005: Norm Durflinger attended the meeting of the ICPEA and updated them on upcoming activities for IL-SAELP. Following the meeting, Norm met with Maggie Noe and Jenny Tripses about the upcoming April 28 th ICPEA Forum.
Friday, March 11, 2005: Norm Durflinger and Erika Hunt met with Jo Anderson from CEC as well as with representatives from Rockford School District to discuss Rockford’s involvement with the IL-SAELP District Network.
Tuesday, March 29, 2005: The IL-SAELP consortium held a consortium meeting at the Radisson Hotel in Bloomington, IL.
Thursday, April 28, 2005: Norm Durflinger, Erika Hunt, as well as members of CEC and other organizations in the state will be having dinner with Gary Bloom to learn information about the CEC school coaching program and the work of the New Teachers Center.
Thursday, April 28, 2005: The ICPEA/IL-SAELP University Forum was held in Springfield, Illinois.
Wednesday, May 11, 2005: Norm Durflinger and Erika Hunt met with State Superintendent, Dr. Randy Dunn, about ways to integrate IL-SAELP into the State Board of Education's strategic plan
Thursday, May 12, 2005: Norm Durflinger and Lynda Irvin met with Diane Rutledge and Jenny Tripses about the administrative preparation working committee that they would be chairing.
Thursday, May 19, 2005: Norm Durflinger and Erika Hunt held a conference call with the co-chairs of the IL-SAELP working committees.
Monday, May 23, 2005: Erika Hunt testified at an ISBE strategic planning hearing on behalf of the need to integrate school leadership initiatives into the ISBE strategic plan. The transcripts from the hearing can be found here.
Wednesday, June 1, 2005: IL-SAELP hosted a meeting to conceptualize what a mentoring/professional development plan for school leaders might look like in Illinois.
Friday, June 17, 2005: Norm Durflinger and Erika Hunt, met with officials from IPA, IASA, ISBE, and EIU to brainstorm ideas for a statewide induction and mentoring program for principals.
Monday, June 20 through Tuesday, June 22, 2005: IL-SAELP hosted the first annual Leadership Academy for the IL-SAELP network districts.
Tuesday, June 28, 2005: The IL-SAELP consortium meeting was held at the IPA building in Springfield. This meeting was devoted to working time for each of the IL-SAELP working committees.

EAF faculty to collect their feedback regarding the advanced certification

Thursday, September 15, 2005: Three IL-SAELP committees - the Coaching
Committee, the Preparation Committee, and the School Licensure Committee
- met to work on their pieces regarding the preparation and induction
of principals in the state.
Monday, September 19, 2005: Norm Durflinger and Erika Hunt met with Nancy
Laho and Maggie Blinn from Chicago Public Schools to collect their feedback
regarding the advanced certification proposal.
Monday, September 19, 2005: The IL-SAELP NBCT committee met in Chicago
to work on the development of a framework for a seamless route to leadership
for NBCTs.
Tuesday, September 20, 2005: The IL-SAELP Professional Development committee
met in Bloomington to work on the development of a framework for a New
Principal and Continuing Professional Development program.
Thursday, September 22, 2005: Norm Durflinger presented the advanced certification
proposal before the Illinois Council of Professors of Education Administration
(ICPEA).
Tuesday, September 27, 2005: The first meeting of the IBHE Commission
on School Leader Preparation was held at Illinois State University. More

Monday, October 3, 2005: The IL-SAELP School Licensure Committee met in
Springfield to review the components of the advanced certification proposal
and to make recommendations regarding increasing the number of years teaching
requirement.
Wednesday, October 5, 2005: Diane Rutledge and Erika Hunt gave a presentation
at the Large Unit District Association
(LUDA) conference regarding the advanced certification proposal.
Tuesday, October 11, 2005:: Norm Durflinger, Erika Hunt, and Lisa Hood
met with Brian Schwartz from the Illinois Principals' Association (IPA)
to collect the association's feedback regarding the advanced certification
proposal.
Thursday, October 13, 2005: The IL-SAELP Preparation Committee met at
Illinois State University to work on its development of a model preparation
program for principals.
Sunday, October 16, 2005: The IPA Executive Board voted in favor of the
components of the IL-SAELP Advanced Certification Proposal at its annual
conference in Springfield.
Wednesday, October 19, 2005: Erika Hunt met with Dean Deborah Curtis to
update her on the IL-SAELP Advanced Certification proposal.

with Jeff Mayes from the Illinois

to finalize the development of a statewide framework for an principal

June 21-22, 2006: IL-SAELP District Network Leadership Academy, Illinois State University
