Standards & Geography Skills - National & State Following is a list of the national and state standards and skills in geography. Geography for Life: National Geography Standards, 1994 was used in the development of the state standards for Social Science State Goal 17 -- Geography. They are provided here as an aid to teachers who choose to use the items in this publication in their classrooms and want to know which state and national standards are being assessed. Also, they can be used by teachers who wish to develop additional alternative assessment items in geography. In addition, the geography skills section of the national standards have been included in abbreviated form for teacher use. All of the test items in this document have been classified to the Knowledge Statement level of the national standards and to the Learning Standard level of the state standards for each of the separate grade groupings. Each test item classification appears across the bottom of the page for each item in Assessment Items to enable teachers to identify the specific component of both the national and state standards to which the item belongs.
