Field Tested Items, Item-Specific Scoring Rubrics & Selected Student Responses This section is provided to assist teachers and other educators who wish to use alternative assessment in their classrooms. It contains five field tested items for each of the grade level groups (K-4, 5-8, 9-12), item-specific scoring rubrics, and selected student responses, that illustrate four different levels of student performance for each of the five field tested items in grades 4, 7, and 12. The separate scoring rubrics can be used to score the items to which they pertain, should teachers decide to administer any of the field tested items in this section to their own students. Or, teachers using other alternative assessment items can use the scoring criteria in Scoring Criteria and the prototype rubrics included here to guide the writing of their own item-specific rubrics. Also, if they use the field tested items in their classroom, they may want to compare their students' performance with the selected student responses included in this section, or evaluate their students' success in meeting the state and national standards assessed by specific items.
